Lisa's Quilt
The photos on this page show the quilt in different phases of construction. The first series of photos below are the 18 variations of the pinwheel block used in the quilt. Each block is photographed lying on my hardwood floor. Each block finished to 14" by 14". There are 49 individual blocks (in a 7 x 7 array) in the finished quilt so each variant is used 3 or 4 times. Please note that the common fabric used in all blocks is an African cotton fabric. This fabric is an example of the fabric that ladies in West Africa use to wrap themselves from head to toe.

After I pieced the individual blocks into the top, my basement floor was the only place I could make the quilt sandwich of top, batting and backing.

Of course, my cats had to help me with such a large project. Emmylou (the long-haired red nut job) is sitting on some blocks after I finished them. Gillian (the short-haired red nut job) waited until I was quilting to help out.

Here is the tag I made to put on Lisa's quilt. She wasn't particularly fond of pink (I am the pink sister) but I think she did appreciate it. My biggest regret is that I did not make this quilt sooner.
Lisa left us on July 17, 2009; 55 years too young.
